Each shark cage diving trip departs from Simon’s Town Pier and docks at Seal Island, False Bay. Seal Island is one of the world’s most famous natural history locations and one of the only places on earth where you have the chance to witness multiple predatory events between sharks and Cape Fur Seals.

Shark cage diving trips are organised according to the seasonal habits of the great white sharks. Sharks are seen visiting Seal Island from as early as February, though the winter months are seen as the best months for witnessing predatory behaviour such as breaching.

Shark Bookings offer the following excursions for shark cage diving in Cape Town:

Morning trip – February to April

Great white sharks only start breaching from May, so the morning trips from February to April are purely focused on cage diving with great white sharks.3jtBdLBt1d1gTzd4YzM4m9xZHek1LN5SRKyWgReAx3SLY369fTB5wnsOgWfkCTKXX

7am: Crew meets at Simon’s Town Pier where they are given a full briefing before setting off for Seal Island on a 25 to 35-minute boat ride.

7:30-10:30am: The crew will anchor up and then start to chum the water to attract sharks to the vessel. The shark could arrive immediately or it could take a while. Once sharks begin to arrive and approach the vessel, divers will enter the cage which is then lowered into the water. Submerged behind the thick bars of the cage, the divers will enjoy their first face-to-face encounter with the great white shark.

11am: The boat returns to Simon’s Town Harbour.

Afternoon trip – May to September

The afternoon trip is not a breaching and predation trip, but guests will have a good chance of spotting a great white shark when the boat arrives at Seal Island. At the end of the trip, a fake seal is towed behind the boat – affording guests the opportunity to view a natural predation close to the boat.
