The Seven Gill Cow Shark dive is a unique and incredibly special shark diving trip in Cape Town. Book with Shark Bookings and witness the only place in the world where you can dive with these rarely seen sharks.
There are two options for your Cape Town trip: diving with Seven Gill Cow Sharks or a combination of two dives which includes a second dive with seals at the resident seal colony.
Guests will meet the crew at the Simons Town Pier at 7am and board the boat for a scenic 15 minute trip along the beautiful Cape Peninsula coastline. Once the boat arrives at Millers Point, divers will slip into the water and enjoy an incredible 10 meters-deep dive in a protected kelp forest. Seven gill cow sharks are branded as “wolves of the sea” because of their cooperative hunting behaviour – a rarity among sharks. Generally, cow sharks are concentrated in very small areas and seem to approach divers with very little fear – this opens up a wealth of photographic opportunities for divers.
If divers choose option 1, they will enjoy a 60-minute break with snacks and refreshments before embarking on their second dive. The boat will return to Simons Town pier at approximately 11am.
Option 2: Gill Cow Shark diving and seal dive
After diving with Gill Cow Sharks, guests will board the boat and head out to their second destination – a nearby seal colony. This dive allows for a long, languid experience in the shallow kelp forests where guests have the opportunity to come face to face with the friendly Cape Fur Seals.
The sharks and seals are found swimming between the kelp forests of the Cape Peninsula in False Bay. The Marine Protected Area enjoys a healthy ecosystem where divers can witness an abundance of fish, shellfish and soft corals. The dive site is usually very sheltered, but may turn choppy with swells in the summer months.
